WINNER!! CSS- Cansei de ser Sexy
These Brazilians kick arse (or lick arse)! They bring a whole new meaning to cool, hell don't we all want to be just like them. There rude, dirty and so so sexy. Girls have ruled the Indie rock scene this year so it's fitting a mostly girl group take the top prize.
RUNNER UP The Mint Chicks- Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!
A close second! This album is so catchy, every song has been stuck in my head at some stage this year. The Mint Chicks might be a bit obscure to folks outside New Zealand and Australia but if you have any sense you'll check them out real soon.
HONOURABLE THIRD Gomez- How We Operate
While many critic's wrote Gomez off long ago, How We Operate saw Gomez returning to their Mercury Prize winning best. This album was my number 1 for a long time, it's poetical musicainship at it's very best. I'm not ashamed to be a massive Gomez fan
NOT TO BE FORGOTTEN
Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Show Your Bones
We all fell in love with Karen O when we saw her in the video for 'Gold Lion'. With a fresh energetic lease on life the YYY's were back. Karen O screeched and danced all over the record and with Nick Zinner and Brian Chase they made a masterpiece.
The Rock and Roll Machine- Rock and Roll Machine: Review
Wednesday, December 06, 2006
Finally, finally, finally fans of The Rock and Roll Machine can rejoice. It’s been a long time coming but finally they have released a full-length album. Showcasing the band as one of the hardest rocking animals in Aotearoa,
Rock and Roll Machine reins supreme as one of 2006’s loudest and most ferocious. With over six years of touring and supporting such acts as The White Stripes and Guitar Wolf the band boasts a huge reputation.
Rock and Roll Machine contains a selection of tracks, new and old, that die-hard fans already live and breathe. But don’t fret, there’s a couple of new tracks in for spoils, most noticeably the hit single ‘Want U Bad’ featuring bass player Karin Canzek on lead vocals. ‘Creature Of The Night’, ‘Animal’ and the bone crunching live favourite ‘Rock and Roll Junky’ prove The Rock and Roll Machine wear their leather with pride.
